Magazines
I produced many magazines and game day programs for both the San Diego Padres and Chargers.
I have produced periodicals both traditionally and electronically.
Game day programs for sporting events are examples of materials that have immovable deadlines. If the deadline is missed, the product becomes recycle material.
I know deadlines.
Newspapers & Supplements
I was hired at the San Diego Business Journal to take them from an old school traditional paste-up publication to a fully digital enterprise. This involved spec’ing, purchasing and installing the needed hardware and software, hiring and training the staff and then creating the digital workflow to get the paper to the subscribers without them knowing anything had changed.
I loved the challenge and am very proud of what we were able to accomplish.
Newsletters
Newsletters are a pain in the backside, but undeniably important for company morale. Since they generally do not generate revenue, they often take a back seat to the corporate product and need to be squeezed in when possible.
It is tough to get overworked employees to commit to creating the content and the deadlines can easily slip. Once the newsletter is complete, it is often time to start collecting content for the next one. They can be thankless and time consuming.
A newsletter really needs a champion who is willing to put in the effort to keep it on track.
